In this article, we will explore our top GPTs for turning photos into cartoons. I have selected 4 GPTs to review based on their creative ability and accuracy in transforming photos into cartoons.

We will test out GPTs in our library that can help users turn their photos into cartoons, anime, or even animations similar to Disney and Pixar's style.

These GPTs require users to upload photos and animate them. While they may not be groundbreaking technology, they have practical uses in generating ideas, education, entertainment, and art.

Learn about the pros and cons of each GPT and we encourage you to try them out yourself  and learn how to choose the best option for transforming your photos into cartoons.

Our top choice: Cartoonize Yourself

I grew up watching films from Pixar, and I’m a big fan of their art style. This GPT gave out the best results in terms of accuracy, color, and overall vibe to our reference photo. The process was simple, and I think anyone can enjoy seeing their photos rendered in Pixar's distinct style of animation.

Animal Selfie Transformer is also a close winner in our list. This GPT transforms photos into Disney-style cartoon animals. It’s similar to Cartoonize Yourself but is focused with animal-like animation. It’s a great way of reimagining yourself and is extremely entertaining to do.

Here’s our handpicked GPTs up for review:

1. Cartoonize Yourself

2. Cartoonify Me

3. Portrait Cartoonator

4. Animal Selfie Transformer

To test out these 4 GPTs, we will be working with this image.

1. Cartoonize Yourself

This GPT transforms user-uploaded photos into renders that resemble the animation style of Pixar Animation Studios.

At its core, this GPT aims to render photos in line with Pixar’s aesthetics. This includes their characteristic approach to character design, color palette, and texturing.

If you look back to the reference image, you’ll see that the colors are flat and moody. But as you can see, Pixar’s distinct warm and fuzzy color profile is felt on the final image.

I can also appreciate that the origin, gender, clothing, facial expressions, and the distinct features of our subject were maintained in the final render.

What we like about Cartoonize Yourself:

  • Accurate replication: This GPT is ideal for any user wanting a Pixar-like version of their photos.

  • Attention to detail: It maintained key details of the reference photo and captured Mac Miller’s personal likenesses in a fun, animated, and Pixar-y style.

Limitations:

Style restriction: Unfortunately, this GPT is only limited to Pixar-style illustrations and will not be able to replicate different or original art styles.

Dependent on input: The quality of the output heavily depends on the quality of the photo provided. Poor quality photos may result in less detailed or accurate illustrations.

2. Cartoonify Me

Cartoonify Me is a personalized anime artist. It can take a photo and transform it into a cool, 3D anime-style picture, immersing you in an anime world

This GPT specializes in transforming portraits into 3D anime. However, it deviated too far from the original photo. The accuracy of the hair and facial features, were not accurate at all.

One thing to note is that Cartoonify Me struggles with buzz cuts and short haircuts, as they are not typically seen in anime.

Overall, the ability to turn portraits into 3D anime is definitely there, but there are inherent limitations built into this GPT.

What we like about Cartoonify Me:

Profile picture ready: Most users of this GPT have one goal - to see themselves transformed into anime and share it with others. This GPT exports the output as a profile picture.

Limitations:

Can only do Anime: It specializes in the anime style, so if you're looking for something different, it may not be the right choice. It is limited to performing this specific anime transformation and cannot do other types of artwork.

Not accurate: This GPT specializes in creating 3D anime. It focuses solely on this art style, so it may not accurately depict facial features, backgrounds, hair styles, and skin color unless they are commonly seen in anime.

3. Portrait Cartoonator

Portrait Cartoonator specializes in converting portrait photos into an output that resembles Disney-Pixar animations.

This GPT is Cartoonize Yourself’s big brother. The only difference that we can compare it to is that this GPT added a more refined and mature tone to the output.

It utilizes the details from the reference photo  to create a prompt with DALL-E, ensuring the output closely matches Pixar’s distinct art style.

What we like about Portrait Cartoonator:

It’s extremely detailed:
Portrait Cartoonator runs on DALL-E. Given that, this GPT has the capability to produce detailed outputs while being faithful to its Disney-Pixar art style.

It’s user-friendly: Users don’t even have to put in a prompt to transform your image. Simply upload the reference photo and users can start from there. No prompting skills are required.

Limitations:

It can only do Disney-Pixar style: Much like all the GPTs in this list, they only have one style. Users won’t be able to transform photos in any other style.

No customization options: Its user friendliness is a double-edged sword. It lacks the ability for real-time feedback or customization during the transformation process, even if you tweak your prompt, it will not follow your instruction.

With no custom options, the output will not be as accurate.

4. Animal Selfie Transformer

Animal Selfie Transformer GPT transforms selfies into Disney-style cartoon animals. It analyzes facial features and background details in user-uploaded images to create fun and animal-like transformations to users’ images.

What we like about Animal Selfie Transformer GPT:

It’s creative:  The standout feature of this GPT is its ability to transform human faces as Disney-style cartoon animals. It’s also one of the fun GPTs that we’ve tested in this list as it’s different. It doesn’t only ‘transform’ photos but also provides a fun and adorable experience for the user.

High education and entertainment value: It’s a GPT that transforms user’s photos to Disney-creature like photos. It's interactive, entertaining and adds an enjoyable experience to the users of any level.

Limitations:

Dependent on input: The quality of the uploaded image affects the accuracy and appeal of the renders.. Poor quality photos may result in less accurate or less appealing results.

Limited Style: Animal Selfie Transformer is limited to Disney-style transformations, and this may not cater to preferences for other art styles.

Time to try for yourself!

After testing all of these GPTs it was quite amusing at how it turned ordinary photos into adorable and animated outputs.

The process was fun, and the results were quite decent —  not perfect, but it’s getting there.

Limitations were quite evident. The fixed cartoon style and loss of detail in the images were hella noticeable; and these GPTs interpret photos differently than what you would expect, so as a user you should be aware of this while you’re having a go at it.

Cartoonize Yourself is our top GPT pick for turning yourself into a cartoon. Its approach to design, color usage, and textures were a true standout from all the GPTs we’ve tested in this list. It’s accurate, user-friendly, and was the most faithful to its core purpose: to transform uploaded photos into Pixar’s animation style.

Similar to the concept of using AI for Image Generation and Video Generation these GPTs are still in their early versions. While your imagination may be limitless, there are still a lot of limits in the technology behind these art forms.

But don’t let these limitations take the fun out of your projects, our dear wizard! It’s all just cartoon versions of your photos at the end of the day after all. So there’s absolutely no need to be too serious about yourself!

So have fun and let it rip! See you on the next one!
