Description
Git OSS Stats is a handy tool that helps you dig into the details of open-source software (OSS) repositories and developers on GitHub. It's like a magnifying glass for GitHub, allowing you to see detailed information about a repository or a user that you wouldn't normally see on the GitHub website itself. This can be useful if you're trying to understand the history of a project, the activity of a developer, or the community around a project.
How to use:
- Choose what you want to investigate: You can either look up a specific GitHub user or a specific repository. A user is someone who contributes to projects on GitHub, and a repository is where a project lives. |||
- Provide the necessary details: If you're looking up a user, you'll need to know their GitHub username. If you're looking up a repository, you'll need to know both the username of the person who owns the repository and the name of the repository itself. |||
- Ask the plugin for the information: You can do this by saying something like "Can you give me information about the GitHub user [username]?" or "Can you give me information about the GitHub repository [username/repository]?" |||
- Wait for the plugin to fetch the data: The plugin will go off and gather the information you asked for. This might take a few moments. Once it's done, it will present you with a detailed report. |||
- Read the report: The report will contain a lot of information, so take your time to go through it. It might tell you things like how many people have starred a repository, how active a user is, or how a project has evolved over time.
