🤖 Chatbots Trends
- Custom Instructions for ChatGPT – a feature to give ChatGPT consistent background info, and users more control over the output – is now available to free users. This move makes OpenAI more competitive against other rising (free) alternatives, including Google Bard and Claude 2.
- Search engines – Google, Bing, etc. – are currently facing high costs of using large language models to fulfil searches; these companies are trying to balance the short-term losses of LLM-powered searches vs winning the market. The current costs of serving LLMs to customers at scale is holding these companies back from releasing the best versions of their products. While using LLMs are (mostly) an ad-free experience at this point, the need for monetisation to defend the high costs might change that in near future.
- Chatbots are now starting to take your orders at Drive-Thrus. Wall Street Journal recently featured technology made by a company called Presto utilising OpenAI’s GPT model to take orders and communicate with drive through customers. The solution is currently in use at about 350 US locations.
👍 Social Media Platforms embracing AI
Generative AI is on virtually all tech companies’ radar these days, including the largest social media platforms.
- Tinder introducing AI photo selection feature; helps users select 5 photos from their photo album that best represent them for their dating profile.
- Instagram rumoured to be working on labelling content that is generated or edited by AI with “generated by Meta AI”.
- YouTube experimenting with AI videos summaries (there's several useful ChatGPT plugins for summarising YT videos already).
