I’ve been busy getting the new whatplugin.ai all set up as the best place for exploring useful GPTs (thanks to all who supported the launch on Product Hunt).

• Curated selection of GPTs. With thousands of GPTs out there, it’s a challenge to find good ones. I only list GPTs that either have a high amount of web traffic, I’ve tested personally, or are recommended by a credible source.
• GPTs ranked by usefulness. I made an algorithm that considers several quality signals. I’ll keep improving this formula to highlight the most useful GPTs.
• Unique filters: Popular, Trending, New, Dario’s Picks (my personal favourites).

I. OpenAI postpones the GPT store until 2024

OpenAI sent out an update to regarding GPTs on Friday, here’s the TLDR:

• GPT Store postponed until “early next year”. Initially planned to launch in November, the company says the delay is due to “a few unexpected things”. That kinda sounds like the OpenAI office is ready for holiday season, but also seems fairly legit given the absolute drama unfolding there*.
• Uploaded files in GPTs are downloadable when using Code Interpreter. They’ve switched the default functionality for this to “off” when creating a GPT.
• Improvements for the Actions component (for connecting GPTs to third-party APIs): one-click testing, debug preview, multiple domains now allowed.

*In case you missed it, here’s a full 25-minute summary by Matt Wolfe of how Sam Altman was fired and rehired and everything else that went down. I guess the most important thing to know is that Altman is officially back as CEO.

II. Google’s Gemini delayed until 2024

Speaking of delays..

Google’s new LLM was anticipated to launch next week, but has been quietly rescheduled to early 2024, reportedly due to issues with non-English prompts. Gemini is rumoured to outperform GPT-4 due to its larger computing power.

III. Pika Labs’ new generative video platform

Pika Labs is an AI video generator that emerged in July 2023 and recently raised 55$ million. I recently wrote about Pika for Fritz.ai, impressed by the high-quality of their videos (it was up there with Runway imho, but discord-based, less functionality and also free).

Pika allows you to describe an idea (e.g. “a racoon in space suit, 3D animation”) and get an animated video back. The company has now unveiled a big upgrade to their platform allowing users to generate and edit videos in different styles, adding/subtracting items in the video, an inpainting feature, and more – all in a new web platform.

Levelsio is on fire making and sharing learnings about GPTs

Levelsio has been making GPTs and generously sharing his learnings on X. He is pushing the envelope on what is possible to create with GPTs, and providing a lot of great insights. Here’s the 5 GPTs he has shared so far:

• profilereview.com (dating profile reviewer – this one is monetised and earning ≈500$/month)
• @levelsio (a chatbot of himself)
• The Secret of Monkey Island: Amsterdam (an image + text based adventure game)

He even open sourced The Secret of Monkey Island: Amsterdam stating “It'd be nice to see more ChatGPT-based games appear from this.”

GPTs 

There’s now tens of thousands of GPTs. All of which have been launched since OpenAI introduced GPTs on November 9th.

Anyone can make them in a matter of minutes. Unsurprisingly, most of what is being made is not very high quality.

Thus, until OpenAI launches the official GPT store, I will be actively scouting the latest and greatest ones for you…

• Meta releases Seamless, language translation models that preserve expression and do almost real-time translations.
• Amazon launches its answer to ChatGPT—Q, an AI-powered business chatbot. However, some employees warn about severe hallucinations and data leakage.
• Bard can now help you understand YouTube videos.
• OpenAI reportedly made an AI breakthrough before Altman firing: Q-star. Rumoured to be capable of solving grade-school-level math problems, and could pave the way for more powerful systems. This was has also been rumoured as a key reason for Altman’s firing. Some experts call complete nonsense.
